Yay for Mid-Winter Break!

WHOOHOO!!  You made it to mid-winter break!!  It has been an incredibly productive four weeks for instruction.  I hope each of you can find time to rest, recharge, and STAY healthy during the break.   We will return for another FIVE week stretch FULL of learning and academic growth for our students.  Our instructional days are FLYING by.  Set your intentions to make the most of this time for our students.  Your consistency with routines in class, especially your data-driven reading small group and math small group.  We look forward to jumping right back into learning with you, but after a week of rest! The Grammys of Winter

Taylor Swift may have won her 14th Grammy on Sunday, but West Side also has some amazing staff bringing home the accolades.  What Travis Kelce says about Taylor Swift is true, she's unbelievable and re-writing the history books.  I would argue the same for the West Side staff too! In the last month(ish), we have recognized phenomenal West Side staff!  Some recognition is shared at school, while others are shared off campus at district events.  These teachers continually go above and beyond in all they do!  They represent the amazing quality of teachers we have at West Side!  Each of you continue to push the standard of excellence and give reason to why we all say, "there's no place like West Side!"  I present you, the Grammys of Winter! Go Punxsutawney, Go!

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, so we may just have an early spring after all!  Whoohoo!!  The car duty folks are hoping his prediction is correct this year.   Bravo to all of our 2nd grade students for their wonderful performance in Mean Jean, the Recess Queen!  They were so talented and joyful on stage!  Thank you again to Lydia for another fabulous production.   With two FULL weeks of instruction ahead of us before mid-Winter break, continue to maximize every minute of your instructional time.  Your targeted focus during small group instruction will help students make incredible gains over the next few weeks.  Remaining closely aligned to the master schedule will ensure your instructional time is appropriately dedicated to reading, writing, and math - ultimately preserving a dedicated 60 minutes per day for small group instruction in reading and math.  This time is invaluable to address student readiness level for enrichment/acceleration, or provide critical re-teaching of
