Reading Small Group Round-up!

It was a great start to reading small groups!  Thank you for your preparation and flexibility as groups get settled into a routine.  As we begin our first full week with reading small groups, you will find some reminders below to start strong with our instructional practices.

We also had a successful week with Wit & Wisdom.  It is evident you are working hard to prepare your lessons and deliver quality instruction to students.  With each passing week you will gain greater confidence in your lessons and find routines that work best for you and your students.  Week 3 will shine SO bright in your classrooms!

READING SMALL GROUP ROUND-UP!

Reading small groups got off to a GREAT start this week!  Continue to reinforce transition routines that maximize your instruction.  Below are a few reminders as you move into the first full week.

  • STEPS plans should be implemented every day for small group.  All components of STEPS should be covered in every lesson.  STEPS resources can be found here and here.
    • Exception in 2nd-5th Grade:  IF JGB is used during small group, you would follow the JGB weekly instructional plan.  No more than ONE JGB story should be used per month.  Questions about JGB?  Reach out to Katy!
  • Assessment data can be accessed any time on the Literacy HyperdocNeed another printed copy?  Reach out to Mary Claire!
  • Would you like small group planning support?  Reach out to Mary Claire (K-2) or Katy Eason (3-5).  They are happy to review your student data to help develop STEPS plans.
  • K-1st Grade:  Heggerty is used everyday in small group for no more than 10 minutes.
  • 2nd-3rd Grade:  One minute repeated reading practice on grade level passages is used every day in small group for no more than 5 minutes, for students BELOW EOY ORF.  **Reading specialist use with other grade levels as needed.
  • Don't forget a weekly formative assessment!  Cox Campus Assessment Toolkit can be used weekly for skills taught in IDI-1 & IDI-2.  All teachers K-2 should have a printed copy of the Toolkit in their classroom.  Your Toolkit miss?  Reach out to Mary Claire!
