Another Great Week!
It was a GREAT week in the hive! There was a positive buzz around campus on Curriculum Night, and I know your families left feeling encouraged for the year ahead. Thank you for your time and professionalism over the last two weeks, as we continued to cover BOY items during faculty meetings. We also appreciate your continued grace and patience as Parrish works through punch list items. You have all been amazing! If you have not submitted punch list items for your classroom/office, please do so by the end of the week on the link here. If you have already entered, no need to enter again. As always, you can reach out to us immediately if you have an item that needs attention right away (rushing water, HVAC, plumbing, pest issues). We can expedite these needs with Parrish and maintenance staff.
You will find several important reminders regarding below, including information about upcoming MAP assessments, approaching deadlines, and upcoming events. Take time to rest and recharge this weekend!
DISMISSAL REMINDERS
- Do not send any student to dismiss until the announcements have called for them to be released, as staff are not at their assigned PM duty until 3:05 PM. Students were released early to several dismissal locations this week.
- Employee children must stay in their classroom until the last call for car riders has been made. This is when contract time has ended.
LUNCH VISITORS
Students in 1st-5th grade can bring one friend when sitting at the visitor table. Please include this information in your weekly newsletter and reinforce this expectation to students. This is included in our Family Handbook.
FIELD TRIP PAYMENTS
The RevTrak store is NOW live! Please include in your next several weekly newsletters reminders to families regarding field trip payments. Field trips can be paid for the year, or before each trip. It is important we gather field trip payments from as many students as possible to ensure these experiences can be provided to our students.
READING SMALL GROUPS BEGAN!
Great work beginning your Reading Small Groups! We are continuing our instructional model of providing ALL students in K-3rd grade with a 30-minute daily reading small group. Continue to reinforce your transition expectations to maximize instructional time. Next week, instruction should jump right into STEPS planning, beginning each group where IDI-I or IDI-II data identifies as the next skill needed. In addition to STEPS planning, each small group should include the following routines:
- K & 1st Grade - 5-10 minutes Heggerty Lessons for ALL
- 2nd & 3rd Grade - 5 minutes Repeated Reading for any group not meeting EOY fluency benchmarks for the grade
New this year, we have added 10 small groups that meet for 60 minutes daily. This serves roughly 60 students in grades 1st-3rd grade. Additional 4th & 5th grade groups will be added after MAP testing.
TEAM EXTENDED PLANNING TIME
We are scheduling with your team leader extended planning time for the year. Once dates have been confirmed, look for coverage calendar invites to come from Carla.
This time will be used based on your team need for long-term planning (YAG), KBU planning & prep, planning & prep for new math standards.
OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTER CALENDAR
There were so many classes that accessed the OLC this week! It was a great to see our students enjoy this new space on campus. We now have a reservation calendar created on Outlook. Directions for adding this calendar to your Outlook are attached to Stinger Stats email. See Kim if you need help. As we learn how this space is best utilized, we may alter usage guidance. For now, we will implement the following usage guidance:
1. Reserved Usage: Reserved lessons/activities take priority in space usage. Lessons/activities are defined as 30 minutes or greater. The Outlook calendar should be used to reserve the space. All staff have access to add lesson/activities/events to this calendar. The reservation should designate the OLC location (Auditorium, Gardens, Tables, etc). Up to 3 classes can reserve the space at one time at different locations.
2. Non-reserved Usage: Classes are always welcomed to use the OLC for a brief break (15 minutes or less) - no reservation needed! If a lesson/activity is occurring during your brief visit, ensure your class is respectful of the other class using the space for learning.
*All students should be taught appropriate expectations for visiting the OLC. Ex: We will walk on the path, not through the garden.
