Thank you, Veterans!

Bravo to our 3rd grade students, Singing Stingers & Mrs. McCutcheon for a wonderful Veterans Day program!  Thank you for your flexibility in adjusting your schedule for the program or parade.  Our Veterans and special guests greatly appreciate this day of celebration.

Next week will be BUSY as we prepare for Thanksgiving break!!  Remember the importance in maintaining consistent routines and procedures in the classroom.  Maximize your instructional time to ensure you are able to provide students with time to master content and standards for Quarter 2.  When we return from Thanksgiving break, we have just 17 instructional days until the end of Quarter 2.  Every day, every minute matters!!

QUARTER TWO PROGRESS REPORTS, DUE 11/16
Review the email sent by Carla with Q2 Progress Report timelines and templates.
  • All progress reports should be emailed to families by 11/16.
  • Complete Q2 Progress Report record by 11/17 indicating students who received a progress report.

SOR WEEK, 11/13-11/16

Kendra & Nik are on campus next week for our third SOR coaching cycle this year!  Teams received an email with more detailed information about the coaching week.  Thank you in advanced for your commitment to learning to make a positive impact on every student.

MATH SMALL GROUPS

If you need support with math small groups, please reach out to Katy.  Classroom teachers are expected to provide daily math small group instruction during at least 1/2 of your math block (45 minutes, daily), some teams choose to dedicate more time to small group instruction, which is a-okay!  Your small group time is the greatest opportunity to accelerate or provide re-teaching to students.  This was reviewed at the beginning of the year when we looked at our SIP and reviewed Fall MAP Data.

SOR WEEK RECAP - INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS TO PUT NEW KNOWLEDGE INTO PRACTICE!

1. Use kernel sentences & sentence expansion as an after reading activity one time per week.

2.  Use "because... but... so..." as an after reading activity one time per week.

3.  Keep a perky pace during phonics whole group & small group instruction.  Students should have at least 30 practice opportunities reading/writing at the word or phrase level, before moving into decodable text.  Maintaining a perky pace will help you cover all parts of the STEPS lesson EVERY DAY!!  Preparation of lesson materials is one key to keeping this pace.  Expert tip:  Prepare your small group lesson materials in advanced by writing words used for the lesson index cards, or on a fluency grid.
