The elves were busy at work today, wrapping presents for all the hardworking teachers in the hive.  More treats & tricks (elf videos) next week for the best staff around.  The the meal prep planners, skip packing lunch on Monday & Thursday!!  You can even expect to bring home Kevin's favorite take-out dinner on Tuesday!!

Next week, teachers will continue to administer LDAs & begin Math Q2 assessments.  Please be mindful ALL LDA data must be entered by 12/14.  If you need help meeting this deadline, reach out to us at any time!  We are happy to assist in any way!

GIFTED TESTING CLOSE OUT & OTHER WINTER GIFTED DATES

Denise will close out Fall Gifted testing next week.  Families will receive an email on 12/15 notifying them of their child's gifted testing results.  Newly identified gifted learners will begin MILE on 1/8, when all other MILE students resume.
  • 12/15 - MILE ends
  • 11/17 - Gifted testing window closes
  • 12/15 - Gifted testing results emailed, complete eligibility report mailed home.
  • 1/8 - MILE resumes; MILE begins for newly identified gifted students
  • 1/22 - TD Session 2 begins
As a result of increased gifted enrollment, the MILE schedule will change in January.  While gifted numbers are not final, right now we are anticipating an increase of 40+ students resulting in 26% (or more) of the student population served as gifted learners.  A final percent will be shared when all gifted evaluation results are complete.  

To support this increase, we will add a part-time MILE teacher to support two grade levels - welcome back to MILE, Mrs. Groeneveld!

Monday AND Tuesday

NO change to time

 Mrs. Herman will teach both classes.  Classroom teachers will receive the specific day students will attend MILE.

2nd

Thursday

NO change to time

 Mrs. Herman & Mrs. Groeneveld will each teach a MILE class.  Classroom teachers will receive the MILE class lists to know the students assigned to each teacher.

3rd

Wednesday

NO change to time

Mrs. Herman & Mrs. Groeneveld will each teach a MILE class.  Classroom teachers will receive the MILE class lists to know the students assigned to each teacher.

4th

Monday

NO change to time

Mrs. Herman will teach the abbreviated MILE course.  All new MILE students will participate.

5th

Wednesday

STEM LAB STAFF CHANGES
With Mrs. Groeneveld joining the gifted team, we will have a change in our STEM Lab from January-May.  Mrs. Kelly Lloyd will join Mrs. Johnson in the STEM Lab.  We are grateful to have a familiar supply teacher to fill this role.  Kelly has served as a supply teacher at West Side in 1st grade, 2nd grade, STEM Lab (when Frances was born) & now again!  

Beginning January 4, If your class attends STEM on Wednesday or Thursday, Mrs. Lloyd will be the new STEM teacher.

Thank you to Mrs. Groeneveld, Mrs. Johnson & Mrs. Herman for being flexible to serve our students in new ways as needs evolve.  It takes a students-first mindset to approach changes in the middle of the year with enthusiasm.  Grateful for this team!

Reminder for 3rd-5th Grade:  Grading categories with weights greater than 20% should have multiple grading opportunities to allow students an opportunity to recover from a poor grade, if necessary.

FIELD TRIP PAYMENTS

The RevTrak store is NOW live!  Please include in your next several weekly newsletters reminders to families regarding field trip payments.  Field trips can be paid for the year, or before each trip.  It is important we gather field trip payments from as many students as possible to ensure these experiences can be provided to our students.

Fall MAP & SOR Coaching Week = JEANS!

  YES!!  The answer is, YES!!  You all made it to the most glorious break of the year after months of hard work and student progress.  In the last two weeks, we've shared with teams some remarkable student progress data in reading fluency (K-3rd), writing (4th-5th), and math (2nd-5th).  Clear evidence of the impact you've made over the last several months.  You have earned this break!  When we return, it will be a busy season - remain committed to maximizing the remaining instructional time with students.
