Unexpected 3-day week!

We accomplished A LOT in an unexpected three day week!  Thank you for your time to review grade level progress on MAP growth goals.  If you would like more specific support on creating instructional plans to support students making minimal progress, please reach out to Katy or Sara.  They are more than happy to review your individual class data.  Our assessments are valuable when we take immediate action on how to support student needs (& needs could include acceleration & enrichment!).

We have some busy weeks ahead - and just 4 weeks until mid-Winter break!  Let's maximize this instructional time to make some big gains for our students!

NEW CAFETERIA MONITOR!

A new cafeteria monitor began today, Mrs. Francesca!  She is a current WS mom to Achille's in 2nd grade.  Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Francesca to the hive.  Ms. Tracy & Mrs. Lawson (on a rotation) will continue to support in the cafeteria.

TKES MID-YEAR CONFERENCES, 1/22-1/31

TD BEGINS, 1/22

Talent Development for K-3rd grade will begin on Monday.  Schedule and class lists were emailed to teachers today.  Parent notification was also sent today.  Mrs. Dorsey will pick-up students from your classroom for all pull-out classes.

NEW MATH SUPPORT GROUPS BEGIN, 1/22

Based on your feedback, changes were made to math support groups during our PLC time this week.  The student groups, teacher assignment & schedule were emailed to each team following PLCs.  Reach out if you have any questions!

SOR COACHING WEEK, 1/22-1/25

Kendra will return to campus next week!  Please refer to the email sent by Christina with the coaching schedule for the week.  We look forward to a week of learning!

MORPHOLOGY RESOURCES

Morphology instruction has been seen throughout the school, especially in our youngest grades!  Kinders already learning about the power of morphemes like un- & mis-.  If your team would like additional support on integrating morphology into your daily lessons, please reach out to Sara.  She will coordinate with Kendra to provide additional support on our SOR follow-up day on 1/30.

Our annual Career Day Fair for 3rd-5th grade is next Friday!  The schedule is attached to the Stinger Stats email.  Students will attend during part of their specials time.

INFORMATION BELOW IS A REPEAT FROM LAST WEEK!

MAP REPORTS PUBLISHED TO PARENTS
Parents will have access to view MAP results in Aspen on 1/23.  I encourage teachers to reach out to parents ahead of 1/23 - IF you know the parent will have questions regarding the child's current progress (ie - students with decreased scores).  Your communication can include the child's current score, your plan to support the child's learning needs in class, how the parent can help at home, or any other information that is helpful for the parent to understand the child's current performance.

YOUNG GEORGIA AUTHOR'S FAIR, DUE 1/26

It’s that time of year when we get the opportunity to recognize some of our most talented writers! Each teacher should select one piece of writing from their class to submit. It does not have to be a new piece of writing and can be any genre. It should represent a student’s own original work without assistance. You are welcome to pull any existing piece of writing that meets the competition criteria. Entries are due to Kany no later than January 26th.  A team of staff members will select a grade level winner from the classroom nominees. Please see the Competition Guidelines and see Kany if you have any questions. 

SPRING ENRICHMENT (COMMUNITY SCHOOLS) BEGINS, 1/29
Registration for after school spring enrichment classes is now open.  These classes will begin the week of 1/29.  Once registration closes, the dismissal document will be updated with enrichment class rosters.

PTA MEETING & 2ND GRADE PLAY DATE CHANGE, NOW 2/1
Please update your calendars to show the PTA Meeting & 2nd Grade Play now on 2/1 at 6:00 PM at Marietta Middle School Auditorium.  As a reminder, PTA meetings are required for certified staff.

Fall MAP & SOR Coaching Week = JEANS!

This week brought the joy of familiar routines to whole group and small group instruction!  Our students have settled so well into your high expectations for learning.  We saw small group instruction start right at the skill level appropriate for each student.  Next week during the SOR coaching week, we will review best practices for STEPS Lessons, HFW & Oral Language.  STEPS will provide the framework necessary for our instruction to "move as quick as it can, but as slow as it must."  Your lesson preparation during small group reading will ensure adequate practice opportunities (30+) are available every day for students to read and write words aligned to the target skill.  If you would like support planning for reading small group lessons, reach out to Mary Claire (K-3) or Katy (4-5).   On the math front, Katy shared district resources available on Schoology to support math instructional planning.  If you find you would like more time to...

Is it Spring Break yet?

  YES!!  The answer is, YES!!  You all made it to the most glorious break of the year after months of hard work and student progress.  In the last two weeks, we've shared with teams some remarkable student progress data in reading fluency (K-3rd), writing (4th-5th), and math (2nd-5th).  Clear evidence of the impact you've made over the last several months.  You have earned this break!  When we return, it will be a busy season - remain committed to maximizing the remaining instructional time with students.
