SOR COACHING CYCLE RECAP!
It was a great day of learning with Kendra.  Thank you for your professionalism & commitment to this important work.  I am always grateful to work alongside a community of educators passionate about their own professional growth.

There were many highlights from our visit focusing on fluency (with awesome writing & morphology connections included too!!!).  Classroom visits will continue when Kendra returns on Wednesday.
  • Fluency grids to practice decoding in small group
  • Repeated readings
  • Use of decodable text or appropriately challenging text to practice intonation and expression in small group
  • Choral reading sentences/phrases in whole group phonics
AWESOME writing & morphology connections during small group reading included...
  • TWR sentence expansion with subordinating conjunctions, connected to reading!  Check out the direct connection between reading AND writing in small group reading with the use of ReadWorks for our consolidated readers!  Appropriate for any student who does not require decodable text in small group.
  • Explicit morphology instruction connected to reading!
SOR GOALS FOR THIS MONTH!
In the next month, your team will continue to apply TWR strategies focusing on grade level specific goals.  Your team SOR lead will support planning in these areas.  Reach out to Sara or Kendra if they can assist in any way!
  • Kinder - Because, But, So & identifying sentences/fragments (who & do)
  • 1st Grade - spiral review of all writing strategies learned
  • 2nd Grade - identifying and writing topic sentences and supporting details
  • 3rd Grade - single paragraph outline, transitioning into multi-paragraph outline
  • 4th Grade - sentence expansion with subordinating conjunctions, multi-paragraph outline

LITERACY & JUSTICE FOR ALL FUNDER VISIT, 3/8
We will be hosting the major funders for the district Literacy & Justice for All initiative for their annual grant review meeting.  The meeting will take place in the auditorium from 11:00-12:00.  Classroom visits will take place from 11:45-12:00.  You will receive an email from Christina if the funders are scheduled to visit your classroom.  It is a HUGE honor to host the LJFA funders, as they have financially backed district efforts associated with Science of Reading PD, including some decodable resources received over the last three years, SOR facilitators in schools, subs for 1/2-day planning times, & more!

SUBS ON 3/8
There will be SEVERAL subs in the building covering for 1/2-day planning times.  If you have a sub for 1/2-day planning, please be sure you leave DETAILED sub notes to support a smooth day for your students. All other teachers, please be sure to hold students to expected hallway, recess & lunchroom behaviors for our students and subs.

PARKING & FRISBEE GOLF
