More than a test score!

We wrapped up two weeks of MAP testing - whoohoo!!  (and... the data looks pretty amazing in our early review).  The work continues for our 3rd-5th grade students next week with EOGs.  We are fully confident our students will continue to shine.  While everyday at the end of the year feels like there's another test around the corner, we also remind ourselves that our students are more than a test score - they are set apart by qualities like curiosity, enthusiasm, courage, leadership, creativity, resourcefulness, compassion, humor, motivation, empathy, and humility.  Despite the imperfections of assessment, we also understand assessment can help design academic goals for what our students are capable of achieving in the classroom.  We delicately balance the value of assessment along with the reminder a test cannot measure all of the strengths our students bring into the classroom.  As you review your students' results, rest in the truth that what you do matters - more than any test can measure.

EOGs BEGIN!

We will begin EOGs next week!  Our students are more than prepared to shine, due to your AMAZING instruction since August.  I know your preparations will lead to celebrations for each of our students.  Let's make it a smooth testing session by ensuring we are prepared as test examiners.  If you have ANY questions about test administration - ASK!  If you need support with test administration in any way - ASK!  We are here to make the weeks seamless for you and your students.

Due to EOG Testing Schedule, we will begin the adjusted SPECIALS schedule on April 29.  This schedule will run through May 8.

READING SMALL GROUPS CONTINUE UNTIL 5/10 FOR K-2ND GRADE!

  • K-2nd Grade:  All reading/math small groups should continue until May 10.  This includes small group in the classroom.
  • READING SMALL GROUP SCHEDULE:  All K-2nd grade schedules should be adjusted to allow for reading small groups to occur during these times.  Mary Claire worked with team leaders to select the best time to allow small groups to continue for all K-2nd grade.

MOVIES

Please be mindful movies should ONLY be used during the school day when their purpose supports a learning goal (Ex:  at the end of a novel study; apart of teaching sci/SS content).  Their use during the school day should be limited, unless used during a lunchtime reward or after the final bell @ 3:05 PM.  Even at this time of year, learning still can happen.  Following testing, our focus is on ways to preview content for the next grade level.

Fall MAP & SOR Coaching Week = JEANS!

This week brought the joy of familiar routines to whole group and small group instruction!  Our students have settled so well into your high expectations for learning.  We saw small group instruction start right at the skill level appropriate for each student.  Next week during the SOR coaching week, we will review best practices for STEPS Lessons, HFW & Oral Language.  STEPS will provide the framework necessary for our instruction to "move as quick as it can, but as slow as it must."  Your lesson preparation during small group reading will ensure adequate practice opportunities (30+) are available every day for students to read and write words aligned to the target skill.  If you would like support planning for reading small group lessons, reach out to Mary Claire (K-3) or Katy (4-5).   On the math front, Katy shared district resources available on Schoology to support math instructional planning.  If you find you would like more time to dig into math planning for your t
