NOVEMBER 5 PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DAY, 11/5

You can find the schedule for our upcoming PL day HERE.  A schedule has been created to give teams an opportunity to have collaborative planning time, as well as provide staff time to complete their civic duty on Election Day.

NACHO AVERAGE TEACHERS!
Whew, we made it through Halloween & we're inching closer to Thanksgiving break. It is obvious the West Side staff is Nacho Average Teacher, but Moe-riffic Teachers!!  Join us to celebrate National Nacho Day (a day early) between PL sessions on 11/5 for a Moe's Taco/Nacho Buffet!

Tamara will be on campus on 11/6 to observe Math instruction in action!  All visits will occur during the Whole Group or Small Group math block.

Please visit our 3rd graders in the annual Wax Museum at the designated grade level times.

VETERANS DAY, 11/8

We look forward to celebrating our Veterans on Friday, 11/8.  All students with a Veteran Guest will attend the program.  Look for a list of student attendees to be shared on THURSDAY with specific instructions for when students should be sent to the auditorium.  
K-2nd Grade - Only students with a Veteran Guest attend
3rd Grade - All students attend
4th/5th Grade - All Singing Stingers attend PLUS students with a Veteran Guest

SOR COACHING WEEK RECAP!

It was a great week of learning as we revisited the 3Ds in STEPS and explored the value of the Socratic Seminar in strengthening comprehension and oral rehearsal for writing.  Thank you for your professionalism throughout the week.  Angie will return on 11/7 for 4th/5th Grade SOR PLCs, and on 11/13-11/14 to continue classroom observations and support.

Did you know... JUST 6 WEEKS LEFT BEFORE MOY LDAs!!  It's hard to believe we have less than 26 instructional days (minus any field trips, etc.) between now and the last day for reading small groups.  This time is CRITICAL for the progress of every student.  Keep up the intentional work to move every student to become a more skilled reader & writer.  Every STEPS, every day!  :)

      • Set-up:  Deck Drills to include sounds, words, phrases - 1-3 minutes every day!

  • Consolidated Reader Text Resources (for your students who have mastered IDI decoding skills):  Text selected by student Lexile - text in Book Room, ReadWorks passages, JGB.

Thanksgiving Break, Praise the Lord!

  YOU MUST SING THE BELOW IN THE TUNE OF DEF LEPPARD, POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME.  :) WHOOHOO!  You made it to Thanksgiving, and in the words of our Kinder ministers, "Praise the Lord!"  It was a great week of feasts, Kinder pilgrims, Wampanoag men/women, and turkeys!  Thank you for your flexibility with the busy events of the week.  As we move into the final weeks of Q2, our days will be filled with W&W Module and Math unit completion, assessment, field trips, and celebration.  Consistent routines will be very important during December to maximize your instructional time and provide necessary structure for students.
