Return from Break & a Snow Day!

It's been a busy start to 2025 - with a snow day & all!  It's our first 5 day school week since the week of December 16th.  With the start of reading/math small groups, new W&W modules and new math units, it will be a productive week of learning.  Next week, is another short week with MLK, Jr. day on Monday.  Let's make the most of every day this week!

PTA TEACHER APPRECIATION SURVEY
As our phenomenal PTA begins to plan teacher appreciation events for this spring, they would like to get your feedback on favorite ways to be treated.  Please complete the brief survey by Friday, 1/17.


COLD WEATHER RECESS
Every effort should be made to allow outdoor recess, when weather conditions allow.  Please see the district guidance below.

1. When properly clothed, elementary aged students can participate in an outdoor environment in most weather conditions.  Increased caution should be displayed when temperatures fall below 40 degrees including wind chill. 
2.  When temperature and wind chill fall below 35 degrees, students should remain indoors for recess.

*As a reminder, Chromebooks should not be used as an indoor recess activity.

Today, it was 42 degrees (feels like 45 degrees) by 10:30.  A great day to bundle up for students to run around outdoors for fresh air.

MILE RESUMES, 1/13
MILE resumes for the second semester TODAY, 1/13.  Class rosters were updated to include newly identified gifted students.  Rosters were emailed to teachers last week.

W&W CLASSROOM VISITS, 1/14
Sara Kany will be on campus with the district W&W implementation facilitator to visit 5 classrooms.  Teachers have been notified if they are part of the scheduled visits.

LJFA SOR WALKS, 1/15
Angie will be on campus this week to complete LJFA SOR Walks from our December SOR Coaching Cycle.  Teachers have been notified if they are scheduled for a visit this cycle.

FACULTY MEETING, 1/15
We will have our faculty meeting on Wednesday, as schedule, to cover TKES Mid-year conference preparation.  Please bring your laptop.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT SESSION 2 BEGINS, 1/21
TD Session 2 begins on Tuesday, 1/21.  Only K-3rd grade students will receive TD in the second semester.  TD Rosters were emailed to teachers last week.  Parents will receive TD notification on 1/14.

PTA MEETING & 2ND GRADE PLAY, 1/23
We have our 2nd PTA meeting of the year next Thursday, 1/23 also featuring our annual 2nd grade play!  The meeting begins at 6:00 PM at MMS Auditorium.  As a reminder, all full-time certified staff are required to attend the PTA meeting. 

TOTY TIME!
It's that time of year again to select our next TOTY.  Please consider nominating a colleague for this great honor.  All nomination forms are due to the selection committee (English, Young, Beck) no later than 1/24.

SPRING GIFTED TESTING
Spring gifted testing will quickly approach.  Anna will take lead on all Spring testing.  The following dates will begin a smooth testing season.
  • 1/24 - GF-24s are DUE back to Anna.  These were placed in teacher boxes last week.
  • 1/31 - Consent for gifted testing will be sent home.
  • 2/24 - Gifted testing begins

Fall MAP & SOR Coaching Week = JEANS!

This week brought the joy of familiar routines to whole group and small group instruction!  Our students have settled so well into your high expectations for learning.  We saw small group instruction start right at the skill level appropriate for each student.  Next week during the SOR coaching week, we will review best practices for STEPS Lessons, HFW & Oral Language.  STEPS will provide the framework necessary for our instruction to "move as quick as it can, but as slow as it must."  Your lesson preparation during small group reading will ensure adequate practice opportunities (30+) are available every day for students to read and write words aligned to the target skill.  If you would like support planning for reading small group lessons, reach out to Mary Claire (K-3) or Katy (4-5).   On the math front, Katy shared district resources available on Schoology to support math instructional planning.  If you find you would like more time to...

Thanksgiving Break, Praise the Lord!

  YOU MUST SING THE BELOW IN THE TUNE OF DEF LEPPARD, POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME.  :) WHOOHOO!  You made it to Thanksgiving, and in the words of our Kinder ministers, "Praise the Lord!"  It was a great week of feasts, Kinder pilgrims, Wampanoag men/women, and turkeys!  Thank you for your flexibility with the busy events of the week.  As we move into the final weeks of Q2, our days will be filled with W&W Module and Math unit completion, assessment, field trips, and celebration.  Consistent routines will be very important during December to maximize your instructional time and provide necessary structure for students.
