Short week, packed week!

It was a jammed packed 2-1/2 days of school.  The cutest production of "Giraffes Can't Dance", Career Day, LLT meeting on campus, 100th day of school & 101st day of school!  Bravo to our 2nd grade students who truly SHINED on stage!!  They were an animated group of precious jungle animals and future stars.  In addition to all the events in a short week, you remained focused on W&W M3, intentional small groups, and Q3 math units.  It's amazing what a talented group of educators, like YOU, can do in a short week!

Mid-winter break is in just 15 school days!  These next 3 weeks are critical points of instruction.  Remain consistent with your instructional routines and procedures, maximize every bit of instructional time with students, and stay diligent in your planning/preparation for small group instruction.

If you need any support during these next few weeks, do not hesitate to reach out!

SOR TEXT COMPREHENSION FOLLOW-UP

As a follow-up to our most recent SOR Coaching Cycle, continue to focus W&W lesson and SG lessons (for consolidated readers) on text comprehension.  Text Structure graphic organizers, aligned to the teaching charts provided before the break, are now available on Stinger University!  You can access them here, ready for students to use to show what they have learned during/after reading!

  • Establish a purpose for reading and teach relevant vocabulary that builds new knowledge
  • Assist students in organizing new understandings by explicitly teaching or reviewing text structure
  • Use graphic organizers during/after reading, that match the text structure type, for students to demonstrate understanding
  • Constructs a mental model by engaging students in conversation about the text
  • Support students in communicating what they learned from the text by using graphic organizers
