Spring Break, YES!!

Spring Break, YES!!  You made it!  Thank you for your hard work this week as we administered Spring MAP assessments to students.  Our testing sessions ran smoothly due to your preparation and supervision during test administration.  We are pleased with the strong progress our students have made, and we still have SIX weeks of instruction remaining.  

  • Kinder - 2nd Grade:  As we move into the final six weeks, intentional use of MAP data determine how you can support preparation for the next grade level, previewing priority standards for the following year.  Collaborate with Katy if you need ideas, resources, or suggestions for this!  The expectation for daily reading and math small group remains until our last day for small group!  (Math:  5/8 & Reading:  5/13)
  • 3rd-5th Grade:  Three weeks until EOGs begin.  Our students and you have worked incredibly hard this school year!  When we return from Spring Break keep regular routines and learning moving forward for the weeks of 4/13 & 4/20.  Any whole group "review days" should be held until 4/27.  The expectation for daily reading and math small group remains until our last day for small group!  (Reading:  5/1 & Math:  5/8)

    • K, 2nd, & 3rd Grade: Erin will reach out to reschedule another date for MTSS EOY Procedures
  • 4/21 (TUESDAY): Class Placement TENTATIVE ***Class placement cards should be completed by 4/20.
SUMMATIVE CONFERENCES
As we prepare for summative conferences, please review the action steps shared during the faculty meeting this week.
  • Paraprofessionals & NON-TKES Staff:  Your primary evaluator will reach out to schedule a summative conference for the week of 4/13.
  • TKES Staff:  Conferences will be held from 4/20-5/1.
    • By 4/3 - Schedule a Summative Conference HERE
    • By your conference date - Complete your TKES EOY Reflection form, found on WS Staff Schoology Page.
TECH TIPS FROM MS. KIM

Time to Learn Tickets!

  • Staff -  The time has come for a heart to heart on Tech Tickets.  After the break, I will ask each Team to carve out a 15-20 minutes during your planning for Ticket Training as proper tickets are not being submitted.  In some cases they aren’t being submitted at all!
  • Incentive to Learn:  After a generous grace period, all tickets submitted improperly will get cancelled.
  • Simple Tickets:   Tickets are easy if you take time to learn the 3 basic steps.

FULTON COUNTY SCHOOLS VISIT, 4/14
District and school leaders from Fulton County Schools will visit West Side on Tuesday, 4/14 to see reading small groups in action.  Teachers involved have received the schedule for the day.  Please have students use respectful transitions in the hallways.

TEDDY BEAR TOUR, 4/17
We are excited to welcome our rising Kinders to West Side on Friday, April 17th for Teddy Bear Tour!  The day will be busy with many visitors on campus during our tour times.  When possible use exterior doors for transitions to specials, lunch, recess.

SOR CYCLE 5.5, 4/20-4/30
When we return from Spring Break, Katy will send SOR Walk calendar invites to teachers scheduled for walks during our final SOR Cycle of the year.  Expect these to come on Tuesday (4/7) or Wednesday (4/8).
  • 4/20-4/22:  SOR Walks
  • 4/27-4/30:  SOR Coaching Week (we will have a modified schedule, including only K-2nd Grade for this final cycle due to EOG testing)
ON THE HORIZON
  • 4/27-4/30:  Amira (K-3rd Grade) - Mary Claire sent calendar invites to all HR teachers and Amira Test Examiners.  As required by the state, Amira will be administered for the final time of the school year.  Look for additional reminders to come about Amira administration.

LOOKING AHEAD, EOG PREPARATION

EOG will begin in 15 school days!  Looking ahead at required tasks for test preparation, please mark these dates in your calendar.

  • Share Experience Online Testing with Families (Wagoner also emailed this to families on 3/11, but it can be included in your weekly newsletters)
  • 4/22 - EOG Test Examiner Training, during faculty meeting
  • 4/21 - EOG Accommodations and Small Group Review
250TH BIRTHDAY OF USA, 4/13-4/17
As part of district wide recognition for the 250th birthday of the USA, some of our specialists have planned activities for students to learn more about the birth of our country.  Marietta City Council will also present flags to each of the schools in our district.

  • Art - Students will create patriotic inspired art
  • Music - Students will learn patriotic songs
  • Innovation Lab - Students will learn the design history of the US flag
  • Media Literacy - Students will learn about founding documents (3rd-5th grade), Moseley will read picture books about the founding of our country (K-2nd)
  • Media Center - 4th Grade Historical Timeline projects will be on display for all students to see

WSSN!  HOW CAN I ACCESS THE WSSN EACH WEEK?
We have created a show page for teachers to easily access WSSN each week from your ViewBoard.  Follow these steps to create a shortcut to keep the show page one click away:
  1. Open the WSSN Show Page
  2. Click 3 dots on Google Toolbar
  3. Choose Cast, Save and Share
  4. Create Shortcut (It will appear on the Desktop)
  5. When you open the Shortcut, click on the Monday morning date to access WSSN for that week!
  6. Watch with your class. :)

12 days of Holiday Cheer!

It's our favorite time of year - Holidays in the Hive!  We love surprising you throughout the month with littles treats and treasures to bring you holiday cheer.  Some teams began the off campus outings today, with more scheduled next week.  We hope you find you find the time for team fellowship to fill your cup.
