Conference Week Round Up!

As you prepare for conference week, thank you in advance for all the time you have poured into personalizing the conversations for each family about each student.  I hope you know how genuinuely impactful you are in the life of a child.  You are the topic around the dinner table, a constant in family conversations, and a safe place for your students to turn.  So, what do parents long to hear?

What Parents Long to Hear
  • Piles of Praise: Our parents want to hear another adult say sincere, positive things about their child's character, kindness, and presence in the room.
  • Social and Emotional Adjustment: Beyond grades, our parents worry about whether their child fits in, feels safe, has friends, and handles frustration well. Hearing that they are adjusting well—or that the teacher knows how they are working through tough moments—is a huge relief.
  • Evidence-Based Academic Progress: Our parents want clear proof (through work samples or data) showing whether their child is meeting, exceeding, or falling behind grade-level expectations.
  • A True Team Partnership: Rather than receiving a list of complaints, our parents want to hear, "We are on the same team," and learn practical, realistic strategies they can use at home to help their child succeed. You are getting the very best they have & sometimes the struggles at school are a bigger challenge at home.
How to Handle Areas of Struggle
For our students struggling academically or behaviorally, parents want you to frame it constructively:
  • Specifics over generalizations: Instead of a vague label, share the behavior or skill needing work.
  • An action plan: Share what you/the school is already trying in the classroom and what specific steps might come next.

Thank you for bringing your professionalism and expertise to the classroom. Our community if fortunate for a staff like you!

As a reminder, PTA will have conference snacks and drinks in the teachers lounge all week long!
